Jan Hoe 8

A teenager who is in police custody for posting a video online that insulted Christianity and attacked Mr Lee Kuan Yew has been declared by his mother to be beyond her control.

On Sunday, Amos was arrested for a video he posted last Friday that allegedly celebrated the death of Singapore's founding Prime Minister. The eight-minute-long video included remarks about Christianity that some people found insensitive.

In a statement yesterday, police said Amos will face charges in court today under Section 298 of the Penal Code for utterances against Christians with a "deliberate intent to wound religious feelings". Other charges include circulating an obscene object and making threatening, abusive or insulting communication which is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

I feel that Amos Yee's actions are horrendous and unforgivable. He has offended Mr Lee Kwan Yew, who has built Singapore, sacrificing his life and making singapore such a successful country which is lawful. I have watched Amos Yee's video and he expressed his feelings about Mr Lee in an unruly manner. He has obviously done the video to gain fame. Now that he is arrested, he still has not show any signs of remourseful and even waved and smile at the camera as if he has done something to be proud of. If I were his parents, I will feel utterly ashamed to have a son like this. Even if he had different points as what Mr Lee Kwan Yew had, he could have said it in a nice manner and not curse and swear at him, even celebrating his death as seen obviously by the title of his video. I thinkAmos Yeeshould really reflect on what he has done since Mr Lee Kwan Yew was really a man of honour who have built a successful singapore and sacrificed his life for us. Mr Lee Kwan Yew was such a respectable man but he was disgraced by Amos Yee and hence I think that Amos Yee should be severely punished.

  1. I agree with Jan. Our founding prime minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew has done so much for Singapore and yet Amos still was not contented and made rudeful comments about the late Mr Lee. He should seriously think about his actions.
