Lim Xin Yi. 15

Link to news article,

This news article states that Amos Yee Pang Sang , an O-level graduate who is turning 17 this year, is charged of 3 sentences for posting videos criticising and cursing our late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew and Christianity.

As a Sinagporean, I think that what the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew had done to shape Singapore into the metropolis it is today is great. He had given his life to politics, to Singapore and our fellow Singaporeans. Instead of cussing him, I think that Amos Yee( the defendant ) should learn to appreciate what Mr. Lee had done. Even if Amos does not like or approve of Me. Lee's political methods, he could have stated his opinion in a polite manner while respecting Mr. Lee and appreciating all that he had done. What would Sinagpore be if it hadn't been for Mr. Lee?

In the article, it was also mentioned that Amos Yee criticised Jesus. I think that this is very unrespectful to the Christians . As a Singaporean, we should live by the pledge and respect all people regardless of their race, language or religion. Even if Amos is not a Christian , he should respect others' religion and not express his extreme thoughts in such a outward and insulting way. In a harmonious society like Singapore, we should learn to accept the differences between people and accept them regardless of who they are.

  1. I agree with Xin Yi's view that Amos Yee should respect others and their religions as in a racial melting pot like Singapore, all it takes is one spark to turn Singapore into a ugly mass of racial riots. I hope the court throws the book at him and teaches him a hard, hard lesson.
I also agree on Xin Yi's view that he should have shown more respect for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew as Mr Lee made Singapore what it is today, and without him, Amos Yee may not even have existed in the first place!
I feel that Amos Yee is an ungrateful, whiny little slanderer and hope that he recieves the harshet punishment avaliable.
