Article name : Teen in 'online rant' charged with 3 offences
Published date : 1 April 2015

This article is about Amos Yee Pang Sang, a 16 year old, who got charged for attacking Christianity, transmitting an obscene image, and posting an online video of Mr Lee that offended people who viewed it. He also had to undertake an additional condition that while the case is ongoing, he is to not post of upload any comments or contents online. On the other hand, his father took the opportunity to apologise to PM Lee Hsien Loong on behalf of Amos Yee

As the writer did not express his point of view, I will talk about my point of view instead. It was stated in the article that Amos Yee Pang Sang's father apologised to PM Lee Hsien Loong for this incident. I felt very pissed off when I read about this as I felt that this was more of Amos Yee's fault than the father. It was unreasonable that the father was apologising instead of his son who was the one at fault. At the same time, I also felt that Singapore's way of dealing with such cases (jail and fine) is very good as I find it very effective. In conclusion, I feel that Amos Yee's act is wrong and should be punished by the law.

  1. Indeed, this incident has not only affected you, but many people who were concerned, even me. I too, felt very peeved and angry that he has insulted so many people. Furthermore, like you said, instead of him apologizing, it was his father who did it. He was seen leaving the court with a mega watt smile on his face. It is really saddening that there are such heartless people around. It is just recent news that our founding father, Mr Lee,who devoted his entire life to help Singapore progress, has passed away. It has been such a blow to the whole of Singapore and yet Amos Yee deals another stinging blow with his ruthless insults which is untolerable, which is another reason why I agree with you. I too feel that the punishment was reasonably meted out. Why such a person is not banished from Singapore, I do not understand.
