Article Title: McDonald's delivery service uses taxi during Ramadan rush
Article Link: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/more-singapore-stories/story/mcdonalds-delivery-service-uses-taxi-during-ramadan-rush

1. The issue being discussed is that a McDonald's delivery guy delivered the order of a group of warehouse workers using the taxi so that the meal could be eaten by them before they had to fast.

2. When I saw the headline, I was surprised since I didn't expect the McDonald delivery guy to use a taxi to deliver the meal. I would only see McDonald delivery guys using their motorcycle to deliver the meals, not a taxi. When I read this news, I was touched in a sense because this shows that McDonald's respects the culture and tradition of other races. They understand that the Muslims had to fast almost the whole day and could only break fast at certain timings, hence they would want the Muslims who ordered a McDonald meal to get their meal on time and be able to eat it before they have to fast. They could have told the delivery guy to take his motorcycle and deliver the meal when they paid extra money to call a cab and deliver the meal on time. This shows a mutual respect and understanding for the different culture and religions in Singapore unlike other countries where there is a dominant race. Hence, I was touched b y this news since this shows the acceptance of other cultures and religions.

Article name : Parent-child interaction cannot be replaced by smart devices, early childhood experts say
Published date : 28 June 2015

This article is about some early childhood experts telling parents that they should not expose children to technology and smart devices at too young an age. An experiment showed that one learns better with a human being who responds as compared to just an electronic device. This was proved through the experiment of having one group of American babies to be exposed to the language through Mandarin speakers and the other group exposed to the same Mandarin material through a recorded tape this time.

As the writer did not express his point of view, I will talk about mine instead. I agree with what the early childhood experts said although I do not know things as specified as they do. However, based on my daily life experiences, many people nowadays are constantly fixated on their electronic gadgets instead of spending time to interact with others. I believe that interacting with others, be it your loved ones or friends, is very important as we will get to understand more about each other and will be able to tell their emotions as well based on their expression instead of just making use of social platforms where we might be a little insensitive of others since we are unable to tell how they really feel at times.

Article name : McDonald's delivery service uses taxi during Ramadan rush
Published date : 26 June 2015

This article is about a group of warehouse workers having their McDonald meal delivered using a taxi instead of the usual motorbikes. The people were impressed by the fast food restaurant's efforts to deliver the food on time so that they would have enough time to be able to finish eating before fasting. A spokesman for McDonald also mentioned that the use of taxis for delivery is not just for the fasting month but also during any other time period when they do not have enough motorbikes for delivery.

After reading about how satisfied the group of warehouse workers were at the efficiency of McDonald's delivery service, I strongly agree with them because this shows that they took many things like the customer's needs into consideration, and were willing to take measures to ensure that their delivery will be on time. On the other hand, they also considered other improvement that can be made such as a faster and more efficient order taking which they are currently trying out in some outlets like the one at jurong east.

Article name :National Day Parade tickets selling on Carousell for up to $400
Published date : 28 June 2015

This article is about an user named "kox koh" on carousell, selling this year's National Day Parade tickets, pricing them from $200 to $400. These tickets were originally free for the public and the just had to participate in a ballot to get them. The results were then announced before the successful applicants can start collecting them. There were people who failed in getting the tickets who voiced out saying that they hope actions will be taken since the tickets should be given to people who have the desire to celebrate Singapore's 50th birthday instead of people like him who makes use of it to earn profit. This is also against the rules since sale of those tickets were prohibited.

After reading about the point of view of the reader known as totoman, I agree with what he said. I believe that these people, who simply makes use of these privileges to earn profit, do not deserve to get these tickets and that the tickets should be given to those who really have the passion to celebrate the moment with Singapore instead. At the same time, I also feel that further actions should be taken so that people would not be able to sell the tickets like that anymore.

The article I am discussing about is that detained Singapore teenager had intended to kill the president and prime minister. The teenager, M.Arifil Azim Putra Norja'i was planning to join the Islamic state in Iraq and Syria(ISIS) and had intended to kill president Tony Tan Keng Yam and prime minister Lee hsien Loong. After reading about this shocking truth, I was stupefied because I had not realised that terrorism had actually seeped into Singapore as well. I am very fearful of ISIS for being such an influential terrorist group. I cannot imagine what would have happened if that teenager had managed to accomplish his mission. This shows that we must be vigilant and be on a constant lookout because we never actually know who is a terrorist. I am also very angry at the teenager for having such a ruthless thought of wanting to kill, especially harboring a desire to kill the leaders of our country. They helped build the foundation of our country and yet he is not grateful. Instead he wants to kill them. This shows that he is very ungrateful.

The article I am discussing about today is about 800 people who were killed in the recent heatwave experienced by India. The temperature soared above 45 degrees and hovered there. With no end in sight, India must think of ways to escape from the heatwave. After reading this article, I was shocked by the extent of damage that global warming has caused. I feel very angry at humanity, which includes myself, about how little many of us are doing to save Mother Earth. We know we are in the wrong and are causing global warming, but we do not dare to stand out to make a difference. Also, many of us have talked about our plans for saving the planet, but we are not using it, talk about empty vessels. We need to do more or one day we will all perish along with the planet. We know that earth is going to die, that's why we are searching for other options, but we are not doing anything to save the planet which we are living in. It pains me to see that so many life forms are dying because of our selfishness. Look at the irregular weather patterns Singapore is experiencing. So many times have people teach us about global warming and what we should do to prevent it, but we do not practice what we preach. We continue littering like nobody's business. I understand why people do not try to raise awareness, because they, like me, are afraid to voice out their thoughts, scared of the scrutinity thrown by other people. However, I hope that we can step up to do our part to reduce global warming.http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/05/india-heatwave-kills-800-capital-roads-melt-150527005721511.html
