10 victims of bacterial outbreak say they had eaten raw seafood

Authorities here are investigating a message that went viral on Monday that claimed that there is a bacteria outbreak from eating contaminated raw fish. 10 of these cases reported consumption of raw fish. However, there has not previously been any proven link between eating fish, raw or otherwise, and GBS disease. However, in adults, GBS may occasionally cause infections of the skin, joints, heart and brains. The risk factors for GBS infection include underlying chronic or co-morbid condition. The claim was circulated widely on Monday via Whatsapp message on mobile phones and also the social media.

Response: This matter is a major concern, as it involves our health. Especiallythose poeple who eat raw fish often, it might be a threat to their health as they might contract the GBS disease by eating the contaminated raw fish. However, we should not believe everything that we hear from online or the internet, as it might not be completely true or it might just be a hoax. Public health is important as contaminated food might cause everyone to contract disease, and even death. Fish is one of the meat that  we usually cook and eat, so if we get contaminated from eating the fish, there might be an outbreak of diseases.

  1. I agree with Gen's point of view and I feel that people should actually not eat that much raw meat as the raw meat is a good place for bacteria to strive in. Cooking the meat will ensure that the meat have been in high temperature and have a high chance of killing the bacteria and the people will not eat contaminated meat.
