Title :
Teenager admits causing mischief, hurting police

Summary : A teenage girl who kicked and scratched a police officer when she visited her house to arrest her brother admitted to two charges in court yesterday.Carmen Chng Jiawen was 16 years old in June 2013 when she refused to open the door to the family's Paya Lebar home and shouted vulgarities at the police. She later scratched the policewoman and kicked her in the knees and stomach. After she was handcuffed and taken to a police car, Chng swung her legs against a back door and kicked a rear window.

Response : I think that Carmen protectiveness of her loved ones is commendable but her way of protecting her brother was indeed wrong. Anyone causing harm to a public servant would have to face serious consequences and I do not think her brother would want her to have a criminal offence too as their family bonds are very tight. Her brother should have set a good example before her as he should not threaten the landlady but instead asked for help from other agencies and seek understanding from the landlady with words. Carmen should also calm down and instead of seeking violence, she should seek understanding in a civilized manner.

  1. Instead of her brother, Carmen has in turn harmed herself by being arrested and getting a criminal record, which can affect her life later. She is a reckless teenager and she does not know how to think for herself and her family, who would be depressed when they know that their daughter at a young age of 16 is arrested. However, the act of protecting her brother is commendable as it shows how close they are.
