Issue being discussed:
At Beijing, a newborn girl was abandoned in a Beijing public toilet and fell head-first. Members of the public were alerted by the baby's cries and informed the police who reached down the pipe to extract the girl. Incidents involving suffering infants is not the first time in China. Such incidents have scandalised the Chinese public in recent years.
My point of view:
The writer did not state his point of view so I shall state my point of view. In my opinion, what the mother of the baby girl did was very irresponsible and heartless. She abandoned the baby into the pipe clearly shows that she did not care about the life and outcome of the baby. For a new-born baby to be abandoned is very dangerous as they are very weak and has a high chance of death. I understand that China now practice one-child policy. If couple found to have more than one child, they could be heavily fined and some of them could not handle the heavy financial pressure. But that does not mean the parents could be irresponsible of their action. Leaving a newborn child in such a place and did not even think of the child is very heartless of the mother. I think that the mother should give birth to the child and take good care of her. As for other issues such as financial, she could try to find a solution for them instead of running away from the problem. Every life of human beings are important and I think the mother should understand it.
Relating to Singapore:
In Singapore, cases like abandoning the baby is very rare, almost none. Singapore actually encourages the people to give birth and money was given to the couple who gave birth so financial pressure is very low. If such thing would happen to Singapore, the mother who did thi have to face serious offense charges for abandoning her baby. Abandoning a baby is no much difference from killing the baby as chances of survival for the baby is close to 0%.
